Physical Education

Sport at Íø±¬ÃÅʼþ has always been an integral part of our school culture. Students are offered many opportunities to build up their skills and try new sports in our extensive sporting program or compete at House and Inter-school events.

Junior School

Prep students participate in the Perceptual Motor Program. The program incorporates gross motor activities that address the most basic movement patterns. Our Physical Education Program focuses on enabling students to participate in physical activity independently and as part of a team. Students take part in activities that build fitness levels as they work towards the development of motor skills that enable them to participate in team sports. Year 4/5 students participate in our bike education program and Year 2-4 students attend swimming lessons at the Wonthaggi YMCA pool.

Middle School

Year 5/6 Physical Education program is based on extending student skills at a higher level and engaging students in Sport Education through a range of minor and major games. Physical Education in Year 8 is based on five-week units of major sports designed to allow students to build on basic movement patterns while developing sport specific skills (e.g.; basketball lay-ups, AFL handballs).

Senior School

Year 9 students participate in a range of physical activities that strive to improve student fitness and involvement in outdoor activities. Year 10 students enjoy regular timetabled Physical Education (PE) and may take an additional PE elective. Further opportunities exist for students to elect to participate in weekly ‘SMS’ Sport. Year 11-12 students have the opportunity to study Physical Education as a VCE subject.
